Roller Games

This past weekend I got to check out a triple-header game hosted by the Gotham Girls Roller Derby. It was my first roller derby actually, and I must admit I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would've.

I arrived in the middle of the first match, The New York Shock Exchange vs. the Harm City Homicide. The second match was the Wall Street Traitors vs. Suburban Brawl. The final match was between the Gotham Girls All-Stars vs. the Mile High Club.

AnimeNext 2011

This past weekend was AnimeNext 2011 in Somerset, NJ!

The photos from Friday are done, but I still have Saturday and Sunday to go through! I had a lot of fun this year, probably the most thus far actually from the past three years I've been attending. Some minor hiccups, but whatever - mainly weather on Saturday, costuming issues on Saturday and the annoying gnats at the con throughout the weekend whenever one stepped outside.

I started to get bored throughout the weekend with static poses and what-not, and started to have people doing action shots for more intensity, liveliness and fun. I also got into the action, as you can see below:

Resolute Cobra Commander Preview

Here's a quick preview of my Cobra Commander outfit from G.I. Joe: Resolute, going with the black and red motiff, instead of the traditional blue and white:

I'll be wearing the outfit for a few hours on Saturday at AnimeNext, while I take a break from photo shoots and event photos.

Manhattanhenge

Yesterday I decided to venture into Manhattan to try photographing the Manhattanhenge, a phenomena that's piqued my interest since I learned of it a year ago. It was quite an experience as I ended up taking photos in the middle of 42nd Street, at the Western crosswalk of 2nd Avenue. There were so many photographers out, and the phenomena was very quick, about 30 seconds or so. I literally only managed to snap four photos, but one of them did end up getting picked by the Gothamist.

Zombies Sighted in Williamsburg

This past Sunday I decided to drive into Williamsburg to check out the Memorial Day weekend NYC Zombie Crawl. It was pretty crazy, especially once the signal was given for the zombies to rush into the streets of Williamsburg. Traffic came to a halt as hundreds of zombies shambled, ran and walked through the streets, shaking cars, climbing trucks and attacking the designated victims, fighting over their entrails.

2nd Annual Steampunk World's Fair

This past weekend was the 2nd Annual Steampunk World's Fair, held at The Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Somerset, NJ. I only attended Saturday and Sunday, skipping out on Friday. There were some setbacks from what I heard, but the convention moved on despite that all! Kudos to the organizers for forging on ahead, like the old railroad workers of times past. If there's an obstacle, either blow it up with dynamite or go around it.

Sakura Matsuri

This past weekend was Sakura Matsuri at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. The weather was great, aside from the lighting constantly changing on Saturday. Lots of people, some great costumes.

Sorry I've been busy lately, so I haven't updated in a while, but now with the warmer weather approaching (theoretically), things are getting more active!

In other news, "Knightmare6" is now officially trademarked! I also recently purchased a Tamron SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro lens, which I'm loving, but it started malfunctioning after a few hundred photos, but luckily I got a replacement in time for "Fairy Tales." So here's the hoping the replacement lens is free of any issues.

Emilie Autumn Overview

The Emilie Autumn concert at the Gramercy Theatre started off pretty late, due to the tour bus breaking down in New Jersey, but it eventually started. The sound and lighting were pretty bad at the venue. I also wasn't near the stage, instead sitting in the seats about two-hundred feet away (thanks to the idiot security guard placing us in the wrong section!) - wish I knew, so I could bring my telescoping lens instead...

Feb. 11th - Emilie Autumn

Just an FYI, I'll be shooting photos at the upcoming Emilie Autumn concert next week (February 11th), at the Blender Theatre in Gramercy (aka Gramercy Theatre).

At least I hope so! You never know if they forget to put your name on the press list...

Really, why?! Everything has a freakin' camera on it nowadays! It annoys me that I need to get permission to shoot, just because I can afford a better camera than some ass using their cellphone to shoot a photo, or worse, video. Damn no-nonsense photo policies that are now outdated!

New York Comic Con & Anime Festival

Well, the first mega-convention of New York Comic Con and New York Anime Festival is over! Crazy weekend overall! I ended up missing a few panels due to last minute schedule changes creating a couple of conflicts, while a few other panels were cancelled the last minute. I didn't have any scheduled photo shoots, which was a good thing in the end, I think, since it was so crowded, especially on Saturday.

Overall I just focused on panels and hallway shoots. Still going through photos from Sunday, but Friday and Saturday are now done with.
